Season End in Honduras

Well, for me, the
season is over in Honduras. What a fun time it was. Lots of paddling and a good amount of rafting. Way more trips on the class Five Section this year, a bit of carnage, but all in good fun. I made some good friends, and worked with some great guides.
All kiwis this season, some I had worked with down in NZ at www.rivervalley.co.nz. The season continues on for www.omegatours.hn as they are a year round rafting and adventure tour company. If you get down to Honduras check them out and try to raft the Upper, as it is sick!
I have come to love this area for its friendly people who are always smiling and the beautiful river that is close by.
I was able, this time, to get down the Rio San Juan. This river is about 2hrs away near Tela. It involves a four wheel drive up a tiny back road, then lashing the kayaks onto some mules and hiking through the jungle for around two hours to the put in. Pretty awesome. The river itself is very beautiful, unfortunately we had a few portages due to the water level and wood.
After running the main canyon, Udo and Stuart got out to drive the car around to meet myself and Jezza who continued down on the lower run. With lots of water it would be sweet, however it was still a nice class 2-3 run with a bit of play. A nice way to finish up paddling in Honduras. The hike in is worth the kayaking run itself, through beautiful cloud forest and across small rivers.
